A small tip to adsense publishers
Posted in adsense Tips and news by lijogk at 7:25 pm |

Ever opened your website to find that all the adsense ads have completely disappeared, you don’t see the usual white spaces instead of the ads but the ads are completely gone and the borders from different columns have merged.
It happened to me, I tried opening the site in IE, Opera, Firefox, still the same, tried opening my other sites with adsense and even DP, still the same result.
After searching for a good day and a half, I stumbled across someone elses posting to find a solution. After curing my problem, the first thing that came to my mind was to inform everyone on DP and earn some greens in the process

OK for everyone with the same issue, you need to browse to;
C:Windows:System32:drivers:etc:HOSTS

open HOSTS in notepad, look for these entries;

# [Google Inc][Restricted Zone site]
127.0.0.1 adwords.google.com
127.0.0.1 pagead.googlesyndication.com
127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
127.0.0.1 adservices.google.com
127.0.0.1 www.googleadservices.com

delete these and save HOSTS ( make sure you save it as the original file and not as .txt )

Now open your browser again and check yor sites, all should be good now.

This poses some serious concerns for webmasters with adsense websites. I have no idea how I acquired these entries in the HOSTS file but they got there. I could have acquired them when I downloaded kazaalite but not sure. Most importantly, I had a reason to find out the cure as I wanted to view my sites with adsense showing, Imagine the normal visitors who have the same entries, they won’t bother looking for a cure as they dont need to. As a matter of fact they won’t even realise they have an issue as they visit new websites etc.

lol… you could actually be helpful and show users how to block adsense ads…

Oops! i guess you already did. heh heh

I just use a userspace solution. Opera+urlfilter.ini+one of the publicly-available blocklists….
works wonders ;)
